I could listen to this over and over again; there’s a lot to grow through. Right now I’m balancing the old story of being self-sacrificing with putting my welfare (and self-respect) first. The latter path seems obviously healthier yet still somehow like being a bad mom.
Thank you for listening and sharing this—I'm so grateful. The push and pull between self-sacrifice and honoring our own needs is so real. We’re 'taught' to give endlessly, but when we start to shift toward prioritizing (or even considering) our own well-being, it can feel like we’re betraying some unspoken rule about motherhood. But taking care of ourselves isn’t just important—it’s essential. It doesn’t diminish our love for our kids; it strengthens it. Navigating this balance is so tough, and I'm so thankful we aren't alone in it.
Thank you so much for sharing these thoughts! "The latter path seems obviously healthier yet still somehow like being a bad mom." Love that you're recognizing "old" stories and that it's okay--probably even necessary--to update them and demonstrate (to ourselves and our children) that we are whole people, and there's more to us beyond our mother role. Modeling healthy self-respect is probably just as important as anything else we can do for our children.
Thank you so much for having me on the podcast! It was an absolute pleasure to be part of such an insightful conversation. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect, share, and learn from each other. Looking forward to continuing the discussion. 🧡
